This Shoe Detects Land Mines and Warns You Through a Wristband

Landmines, nearly undetectable and almost always forgotten they can cripple and kill innocents well after a conflict has been settled. To help remedy this problem Colombian design firm Lemur Studio has developed a landmine detector concept that’s easy to use and extremely portable: shoes.
The firm’s Save One Life concept is a footwear insert that alerts wearers when they’re in a few feet of explosives.
The idea behind the shoe is to allow anyone and everyone to become a land mine detection system. It works by installing a metal detector with a planar coil sensor in the insole. When this detects a land mine nearby, it sends a signal to a wristband the person is wearing warning them of the danger. This early warning system should stop them stepping on the mine and causing serious injury or even death.
According to the designers, Save One Life isn't a solution to the problem, but more of a stopgap technology to reduce the danger from antipersonnel mines.
